Oxygen & Dopamine - Regulators of our Habits & Life

Every cell in our body needs oxygen to function. Dopamine is an organic chemical and is a neurotransmitter and is present in the brain.

Oxygen to all the cells is transferred through the movement of blood. First cloud technology. The brain takes 70% of the oxygen thus transported.

How are Oxygen and Dopamine Related?

Dopamine in the brain is produced by a finite number of cells. Its presence ensures neural communication. Dopamine-producing cells randomly die in the absence of oxygen. We need a minimum quantity of dopamine for neural communication and the absence of it results in depression and other complications.

Every cell needs oxygen and the absence of it results in cell death.

Now, how is it our habits are related to these two?

There are only six habits that govern human activity.

Beverages - stimulants like Tea, Coffee, Tobacco - Cigarettes, Liquor, Sleep, Sex, Drugs...

Beverage.

1. Beverage. - Tea & Coffee - especially Coffee

Coffee is one strong stimulant and Tea relatively mild. How?

When we drink it, it mixes with blood. Consumes the oxygen present in the blood and resultant is a lower amount of oxygen reaches the brain.

The brain has oxygen and other gases present in the brain as in the atmosphere.

When there is a lower oxygen level, other gases become the fuel and result in additional dopamine production.  More amount of Dopamine is more neural communication and thus acts as a stimulant.

Now, this cannot sustain as the absence of oxygen results in cell death.

In this habit, in the event natural dopamine-producing cells die in the absence of oxygen, then we see a low level and thus depression. To overcome. more dopamine is needed for the brain. So additional coffee is consumed and depriving oxygen and enabling other gases to fuel and produce dopamine. There is a spike in production but does not sustain.

The cycle goes and we get addicted to coffee and tea though this effect happens in the long run.

So this is a mild harming habit.

Cigarette, Liquor

2. Tobacco- Cigarette

Nicotine directly inhaled reaches the brain faster and consumes the oxygen present. This results in other gases fueling and producing dopamine. Once again there is a spike and fall. To balance it more nicotine is inhaled and the cycle goes on. A faster addiction. Collateral damage is done to the lungs which too loses oxygen and either cells die or learn to live with other gases. This becomes the cause of lung cancer.

3. Liquor

Liquor is one other beverage with alcohol contents consuming more oxygen from the bloodstream. Less oxygen reaches the brain and is supplemented by other gases producing dopamine.

All these three give temporary elation, and liquor is like tobacco, resulting in faster addiction. Here liver is damaged.

Sleep, Sex

4. Sleep

We all have heard, i do not have any bad habits but still, i am depressed and few even get cancer.

Excessive sleep results in muscle contraction including cardia muscles. When cardiac muscle contracts pumping blood flow is reduced and thus brain gets a lower amount of oxygen. Mildy the cycle begins and cell deaths and other gases take over.

In all the above when the dopamine-producing cell dies, it is finite from birth and irreplaceable. So people get into depression and loss of memory. Other gases cannot supplement without external interference. The brain tries to restore required oxygen levels but habits resist it.

5. Sex

Oxygen is completely drained out from the brain, in the end, resulting in temporary huge production of dopamine and fall. Same kind of addiction.

Drugs

6. Drug-Doping

Direct injection into the bloodstream or inhaling results in complete consumption of oxygen resulting in more cell deaths and causing great damage.

Because of these six habits, when there is a fall in dopamine, the brain tries to get it easily. This is where we get deceived. In the event we properly enable oxygen flow to the brain, then we do not need any stimulants.

Exercise, Music. standard sleeping hours and other activities support better oxygen flow to the brain. Ultimately if we regulate oxygen, we live a happy and productive life.
